Escape to India

On Saturday, July 28th as soon as I got home and some rest,
I posted a post letting all of you know that I am officially back.

This is officially my first ever entry to my "Travel Journal Series".

Now to begin my series from the begin,
I need to start with Chennai, India,
since the wedding occurred there.
On June, 27th at one in the afternoon is the moment in which my travel began. The air travel was more than twenty-four hours long from Toronto, Canada to Chennai, India (my birth place). It was exhausting, but I landed there on June, 29th at one in the morning. Sadly, it was the day of my cousin’s wedding so without anything further to do, me and my family spent the night being all wide awake. Since, in Hindu tradition there are some particular rituals that must be done before sunrise. Due to that my parents didn’t have a choice and well I didn’t really feel sleep due to the time change. Overall, the wedding day went extremely fast with tons of joy, laughter and for me it was filled with all that and also with sore feet and sleep eyes. Plus, the heat and humid made things even worst, wearing a sari is hot wear is just crazy. After the wedding all I remember was that I went straight to the place we were staying a crashed down straight to the cold marble floor and went straight to my dream world. In Chennai, India my family and I spent only seven days and trust me the days felt as if they were going so slow. The heat just kept getting into my head and ended up having some minor heat strokes. However, in those seven days about three to four days were taken up by the wedding and the Hindu traditions event. One day was spent by walking around the crowded market places and stores.

During the seven day stay in India, my dad travelled to take us to Mahabalipuram. Mahabalipuram is the “seventh century port city of the South Indian dynasty of the Pallavas around 60 km south from the city of Chennai in Tamil Nadu. The name Mamallapuram is believed to have been given after the Pallava king Narasimhavarman I, who took on the epithet Maha-malla (great wrestler), as the favourite sport of the Pallavas was wrestling” (wikipedia).  To learn about the history of this historical place my dad and mom hired a tour guide, the guide literally took us to all the historical places and he didn’t miss a thing. Here are the ancients structures that I saw; Thirukadalmallai (Lord Vishnu’s Temple), Descent of the Ganges, Shore Temple, Varaha Cave Temple, Pancha Rathas, Light House, elephant, monkey, snakes and many other creatures carved in granite,  Tiger Cave, Krishna’s Butter Ball and etc. Also, not only did my family and I get to see the historical structures, we got to walk through those places and actually touch each of the structures. I ended up feeling so energized that I snapped about two hundred photos of the place. Only a small amount of photos are used, when I created the collage.
As soon as, all the sightseeing was done, I literally ended up having an empty stomach. At that moment, my dad took us to his favourite restaurant and oh man the food was to die for, it was so mouth watering. The restaurant is called “Blue Elephant Restaurant”. As soon as you walk into the restaurant you feel as if you travel so some ancient museum, as decorative items they had some unique pieces up of their wall. On the wall they had placed some extremely priceless artwork with the history behind Mahabalipuram. Also, the food serve there is fresh; when you order your food the serves bring out a huge tray filled with fresh fishes, shrimps and etc. From there you can choice which pieces you want. Since, I was so hungry, all I remember is that as soon as the food was cooked and was served, I just stuffed them all straight in to my mouth without a word. The food was extremely delicious especially the huge tiger prawn; even now it makes my mouth water. Plus, the service was awesome and plus the owner of the restaurant was extremely kind enough to serve us our meal as a token of respect.  Overall, the restaurant is now a memorable place will eventually go there again the future.
During the road ride back from our destination, we stopped at VGP and Golden Beach. VGP Park is a famous park in India, since childhood I remember going there. This specific park hold a memorable moment that only becomes to my sister, this park was first stage my sister ever performed on and trust me at the young age of five she rocked the stage.  At that time my parents said I was shy, whereas my sister just wanted to have fun.  Plus, the park has changed a lot from the last time I went which was in 2010. This time, there were having a “Kollywood” shooting during our visit, it was cool to see a live film shooting.  The Golden Beach have always been the same as it was in my old memories, but the weather just made me want to running to some cave. Even though, it was boiling hot we all ended up dipping our legs into the water, it felt good. Plus, my aunt and grandma enjoyed the dip in the water more than the kids did.

After that one day of road trip to an amazing historical places, the rest of the days few fast and on July 5th,  I ended up saying my finally goodbye to India, since I rarely know when I will be going back there again.
Well, this is first chapter on my travel story and don’t you worry there are many more to come.
Until next time, take care and enjoy the warm weather.

Love,
Harija Ravi

By now, many (all) of you may know the fact that, I want on a one month vacation. So before, i got ready for the trip, I preplanned about 8-10 blog posts to make sure you that you have something to read on my blog when I am away.  To be frank, all the preplanned posts are requested by all of my lovely readers. Since all the requests were DIY posts it made my life a little bit easier so thank you. Also, two weeks before I left my lovable land Canada, I posted a series of travel related topics and created a brand new series call the travel series; even this specific post will be posted under that section. Furthermore, from my old journal posts many of you may remember the reason behind this vacation. Here is the basic recap, of why I went on this vacation. First of all, yes I went on this trip for my cousin’s wedding; and many if you questioned the reason behind this trip. The fact is that this is the first “big” ceremony on my dad’s side, so to give them over token of respect; hope that past sentences answers all your questions. However, I am now officially back in my lovable country, Canada. I missed my city so much during this one month. Even thought I loved taking a break for my daily lifestyle, but nothing ever beats the feeling of being “BACK HOME”. This is a quick post to say. “Guys & Gals, I am back!” After this post is posted, I will be continuing posting a series of photos about my trip. It will consists of food, (by now, you all know I love food), some sightseeing photos or maybe even some photos of me. Since, I ain't feeling well, I will make this post small. So, once again, I am back and tomorrow be sure to come and check out my blog for more posts.

Harija Ravi

DIY: Wooden & Rusted Beaded Bracelet

This is a Vacation Preplanned Post!

As mentioned in my last post, this is another jewellery DIY Project all based on the trend "arm candy".
Since arm candy have been a huge trend for the past few season,
I decided to create my very own arm candy.
However instead of following some of the common looks, I decided to create my very own with some of uniqueness added to them all in some sort of way.
So, this is my very last bracelet DIY Project for this month, since I already create four unique types of bracelets that are rare. They are rare, since I made them all with a specific plan, I just went with the flow to create them all. Plus, hopefully in the future I will be able to do the same.

Up above is a collage of a DIY project that can be included into the your daily wear, plus it just additional way to add a pop of colour to any outfit!
I will not be explaining anything about this DIY, since everything seems to be already explained in the collage above.

DIY: Red Bright Bow Bracelet

This is a Vacation Preplanned Post!

This is a jewellery DIY Project all based on the trend "arm candy".
I am huge fan of wear chunky pieces on my arms and wrist.
Since childhood, I love mixing patterns, colours, materials and etc when it came to bracelets.
I rarely care about what others thing, when it comes to accessorizing my arms with fun, light weight pieces.
Here is a  DIY Project mainly made to give a pop of colour to any outfit.

For this DIY Project you will need first get a hold of a silver bracelet, I got this from a local arts & crafts store in Toronto.
Next a roll of ribbon and cut it into small piece each must be the size of your index finger.
Next turn the ribbons into small bow using the golden wire, the wire can be any colour of your choose, but I decide to get the gold coloured one.
When turning the ribbons into bows remember to leave some gold wire hanging out.
This hanging out wire will be use to attach the bows in position into the metal bracelet.
Since this bracelet is a like a claw style bracelet, I found it each to fill the whole thing with bow.
Overall, this DIY Project is a great piece to add to any outfit, since it have the brightness and the colour to make any outfit stand out.
Hope you all enjoy making you very own piece like this one or even once with your very own touches.

DIY: ReVamping A Sketchbook

Here is a quick and simple DIY/ReVamped Project

Just last month before heading on my one month family vacation, I had some free time in my hands and decided to revamping my sketchbook cover and also add some touches to it.
If you don't have a sketchbook, be free to do this to your notebooks, diary, journal or even your daily planner.
For my sketchbook, I wanted to give it some character and uniqueness.
I decided to recycle some of my old postcards, magazines and stickers to create a collage for the front and back of the book.
You can uses anything thing you want to create with your special touches.

Hope you like the final look, plus I added some of the pictures, that I drew from my sketch book.

Finally as always be creativity to be trendy!

DIY: Neon Knotted Scarf

This is a Vacation Preplanned Post!

Another DIY Project, this time it's all about scarves.
A scarf is a use piece of accessories that keeps us warm and can also be used as an addition piece to make any outfit stand out.
I have a huge collection of scarves of all sorts and kinds. They come in handy, especially during my exams - since I used just wear jeans and a plain t-shirt with small hoops fully paired up with running shoes. Then just by adding a scarf it changes the whole overview of the look.
Here is a DIY Project on how to create turn a white scarf into a regular addition piece with a pop of colour.

For this DIY Project all the tools are listed on the collage above and here are the steps to achieve this stunning scarf of you very own.
Step 1: First find yourself a white scarf and another stretch material (I ended up using all the extra pieces from my last DIY Project , who knew it will come in handy so fast).
Step 2: Use the stretch material and create knots to give it dimension. (What I did was that I cut them into small pieces then tied them into small knots and until it finally came long).
Step 3: Then combine the knotted string and the white scarf together, use a tread to sew them together .
Step 4: Finally add two knotted on the end of the white scarf to create a finished look.
The End!
(Hopefully my steps were easy to follow)

DIY: T-Shirt Double-ReVamped by adding Scrunched Sleeves

This is a Vacation Preplanned Post!

First of all,
Happy Canada Day!!

Here is a quick and simple DIY Project & ReVamp Project in which you can add two trends (colour blocking & fringe)
For this DIY Project & ReVamp Project I used one of my old ReVamp Project that I did last year during the Christmas break as last minute gift ideas.
This season, I wanted to add another trend to this t-shirt by adding colour blocking.
To add the colour block trend I decided to cute off the sleeves on the top and then add another pair of sleeves from another top.
Then I took the first pair of sleeves (the actually once) and added to the bottom of the sleeves.
Then finally used my tricks of thread and needle created a scrunched effect to the t-shirt on both sleeves. Plus, I also cut the fringe into smaller pieces to make the volume on the top of the t-shirt stand out more, rather than looking to bulky.
This goes perfectly as a beach coverup and it looks cute.

Also, if you want to check out my past DIY Project & ReVamp Project
Down below is the  DIY Project on how to make a fringe top.

Hope you are all have a lovely summer!
Enjoy yourself and be safe!
